The Art That Defines Me
FMP- One Strange Night at the Anchor Pub
Joey is an early 20 something young man. Having a beautiful girlfriend and recently secured a job as a bartender at his local pub "The Anchor", life seems to be looking up for Joey. However one night while closing, Joey discovers that not all is right with this little pub.
Projects
At the beginning of the year I decided to make something different then a horror film as even though I enjoy making them, I wanted to try something a bit out of my comfort zone. And getting an email from our teacher saying we will need a PowerPoint with three ideas we heard for what the FMP could be, I got to work.
Below is the work I did in preparation for the making of my FMP short film "One Strange Night at the Anchor Pub". The film will be the first short film to be produced under Samuel's production company's new name "FishyMonster Productions"
My Influences for my FMP
Stanley Kubrick
The Master of many genres, influences to Kubrick’s work can be seen all over the industry including mine. I have been a fan of Kubrick since I first saw “A Clockwork Orange in early 2014, since then I was hooked on his work. I went on a bender watching Full Metal Jacket, Dr Strangelove or How I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb and the I watched “The Shining”. The 1980 horror film which in turn is based on Stephan King's novel of the same name uses slow atmospheric scares to build it's horror. Which to me was hugely influential when deciding what tone would fit best. Obviously I have thought about the audience members that don't find that kind of horror film enjoyable but to counter that I have decided to add a few jump scares but using them wisely.
James Wan
James Wan has recently become one of my favorite horror directors. Swear every film he directors is solid (yes even Aquaman). My personal favorite is "The Conjuring 2" which many of horror stories take influence from. The film is a supernatural horror films about one of the most famous haunting ever (The Enfield Haunting). Like the shining, the films main strength is it's atmosphere and it's lack of cheap jump scares. The Soundtrack fits the atmosphere perfectly, as soon as the title credits come up and the soundtrack hits, you know what type of movie you are in for.
