1917 Review

1917 is a 202 war epic directed by Skyfall director Sam Mendes and stars George MacKay, Mark Strong, Colin Firth and Benedict Cumberbatch just to name a few. The film tells the story of two British soldiers (during the final days part of the first world war) who are tasked to deliver a message to the front lines. The film is shot in a way which makes it look like it was filmed as one continuous shot.

Just Wow. this film is just a true achievement. it's direction, cinematography and acting are all masterclass. The Soundtrack (specifically during the ruin scene) is amazingly beautiful and sci-fi-esqe. The film really makes you feel what the real world war was like and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The film has no dull moments and makes an hour and half feel like ten minutes with it feeling hours at the same time.

Conclusion:

1917 may be the best war movie since Saving Private Ryan (Sorry Dunkirk), The cinematography, Soundtrack and atmosphere make it a near masterpiece in film-making.

9/10
