Frozen 2 review

Frozen 2 is directed by Jennifer Lee and stars Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Josh Gad. The film takes place 3 years after the first film (released in 2013) and follows Elsa as she journeys to discover her past and the secret behind her powers.

Straight away I would like to say that I enjoyed first Frozen. I never really got the hate around the film due to it being everywhere in 2014 with the song "Let It Go" being sung everywhere. So when a sequel was announced I was excited and now the time has come, Frozen 2 has released, it's set box office records and I have to say I really enjoyed it. slightly more then the first film if I'm being honest.

The storyline follows Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven as they journey to the Enchanted forest to stop whoever is making the elements from destroying Arendelle. This also leads into Elsa trying to discover the secret behind her powers as she begins to hear a voice which she believes will tell her where her powers come from. Unlike the first film which had Hans, Frozen 2 doesn't have a villain per say and instead focuses on the journey of Elsa's character and the relationship between the rest of our main characters. This I think works in the films favour and adds more character to the film and gives a unique story structure to the style of genre the film boosts.

The music is as solid as ever with "Lost in the Woods" being a personal highlight with the song incorporating different musical era styles from the 70s, 80s and 90s (e.g. Queen). However there isn't really a song that is this films version of "Let It Go" so all the parents can rest easy knowing that their children won't singing well into the night.

In conclusion the film takes some of the ideas of the first Frozen and expands on them giving the characters more character development and life. While some of the new songs don't leave much of an impression with only a hand full being highlights, it's still a well produced soundtrack. While the story drags a little bit during the third half of the film,I never felt bored during the film and left feeling that it wrapped everything up without leaving any lingering questions that would warrant a third film. In the end Frozen 2 is a worthy sequel to an already great film that the whole family can sit down and enjoy.

8/10
